London, the capital of the United Kingdom, is renowned for its music, museums, festivals, and lifestyle. Its West End theatre district has given its name to West End theatre which performs in London's big theaters. The Wimbledon regatta and championship are two of the most famous rowing and tennis competitions respectively that take place in London. During Queen Victoria's reign, London was established as a prestigious seat of the vast British Empire.
Big Ben rose above the city in 1859 while London Underground opened in 1863 as the world's first underground railway. London also has a strong rap scene; rappers such as Wiley and Dizzee Rascal have helped it gain status as having one of the strongest rap scenes outside of America. The first settlers of Britain date back to approximately 600 BC when Celts began to establish their culture. Even within this small country, culture is regionally divided: The south is mainly focused on economy while North is traditionally focused on industry. London is a city that has been shaped by centuries of history and culture from around the world. From its iconic landmarks to its vibrant music scene, there's something for everyone in this bustling metropolis.
